The collection contains Chancellor's medical and chemistry notebook, Jefferson College, 1847-1848, containing lectures by John K. Mitchell; record book of cases, C.S.A. General Hospital, Charlottesville, noting admissions after Antietam, and containing medical lecture notes, 1866, 1867 and 1870; and a second hospital casebook, 1862-1863, containing constitution, by-laws and other material pertinent to the Mercer Cavalry, 1859, part of the 16th regiment, Virginia Militia. Also a chemistry notebook, 1865-1866, and memorandum book, 1853-1861, with chemistry and anatomy notes; medical notebooks, 1865-1871; and chemistry notebook, 1870-1871. Miscellaneous items include letters, 1872-1883; photographs, 1874,of E.A. Chancellor; notes on urinalysis by James Lawrence Cabell; certificates issued by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, 1856, n.d.; notification of election of officers, Widow's Son Lodge no. 60, Charlottesville, Va., and a sketch of E. Main Street, Charlottesville, showing the location of the Tyson and Perry photo gallery and the Pence and Sterling drugstore.
